our mission

SFK Academy of Dance, opened its doors on January 7, 2017, with the aim of providing quality, technique-driven dance instruction, in a positive and supportive environment.

Our goal is to cultivate young dancers into CONFIDENT, well-rounded individuals who not only have an appreciation for dance, but who reach for high achievement in academics, and community service.

Our instruction is structured, and curriculum based, but also age-appropriate and individualized, to ensure each and every one of our students become excellent dancers, who love, and enjoy dance. In addition to dance skills, we aim to instill life skills such as respect, teamwork, and outreach, educating and inspiring our dancers to excel in the studio, on-stage, and beyond!

Our new studio has three rooms, so we can offer a variety of music and dance classes for multiple children at the same time!

We do not believe we are the best dance school in Playa Vista because we are the biggest, instead we believe we are the biggest, because families know we are the BEST.

why choose SFK?

Our teachers have been classically trained at some of the top dance studios and Performing Arts Schools in the nation. Most importantly, they have extensive experience working with children, and thrive on teaching proper, age-appropriate technique, while making dance FUN. As a team, we move toward a structured curriculum in all genres, from ages 6 and up. With our younger classes, we keep this eventual structure in mind, working towards it in developmental, creative ways.

Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping. This can put stress on bones and joints- especially those of our tiniest, growing dancers.

Our dance studio features floating Marley surface dance floors. These floors provide cushioning and shock impact for dancers and a good amount of “controlled slip”. Our floors at SFK Academy, are similar to the floors of the best studios in the world, including Alvin Ailey studios of New York, and the Royal Academy of Dance in London, England. Our special floors help reduce the risk of injuries, and allow students to dance longer, with less fatigue.

Limiting the size of our classes enables a student to get more individual instruction from a teacher and results in greater progress over a shorter period of time. Capping our class sizes ensures that no fundamental concepts are being missed and allows our teachers to catch problems before they turn into bad habits or improper technique.

We will bring in an assistant teacher whenever feasible.

All dance students are given the option of performing in our low pressure, but professional year-end recital. The recital fee will be a flat rate, and will include the costume, tights, two tickets, video recording of the show, Recital T-shirt, and an SFK performance medal. Additionally, we have created our SFK Performance Team, which will give interested dancers numerous opportunities to perform at events and throughout our community. The SFK Academy Performance Team will focus on technique, performance, community, and character, in a positive, non-competitive environment.

SFK Academy of Dance has dedicated office staff on hand during all regular class hours, so you can get immediate assistance with details such as schedules, costumes, or other customer service issues.
